To View the Past
To View the Past stands as my response to the way history is perceived. The lens functions in the way we expect -it magnifies the items placed behind it. The glass is clouded with imperfections, distorting the view and altering the presented magnification much like the perception of history as it is passed through generations. The rings hang like a monocle on a straight steel rod from the ceiling, but the weight of the lens pulls the rod out of alignment, creating a gentle sloping curve, ultimately illustrating the weight that history bears on us
